Poems
High way love
The man with his taxi chomping
horn honking in peak hours
pushing out from the minor road
on to the major thoroughfare
shoving himself before me
and then stopping suddenly
to seize the next opportunity
simultaneously jerking me to a halt
spilling my temper and my tea
on the dashboard
reminds me of my first love
who revved into my life
with gall and gusto
and then stalled
for the next opportunity.
On those old roads
taxis still push and shove
stall and jerk
and spill tempers.
But I’m on the high way now
convoyed in love
seized and settled
sipping my tea
and my testimony
going full throttle.

Children’s Day
You are absolutely amazing and so talented,
I give God thanks for giving me you.
A child so precious,
Filled with unlimited potential and creativity,
Simply special in everything you do.
I love you each and every day, I am just so proud of you.
I beam with a pride I cannot hide,
Just super grateful to have a child as wonderful as you.
I am in awe of your diligence and prudence.
As you consistently pray each day.
I love the way you show kindness, self-respect and empathy,
At school, at church or even while you play.
Always so focused on getting your homework done.
Thanks for doing your chores before you go out to play.
Just watching you thrive fills me with such joy,
You make me happy every single day.
You laugh so hard, your eyes light up,
All your friends feel special knowing you.
They love how brave and supportive you are.
And just as much as the students,
Your teachers truly treasure you.
You are never afraid to speak up in class
Or stand up for yourself and others too.
You are fair and honest, not boisterous,
Such an excellent, empathetic listener,
Respectful. Patient, yet very passionate too.
With an absolutely phenomenal future,
May God continue to richly bless you.
No matter how tough things may seem,
You always find a way to make us smile.
Your energy ignites and inspires others
You endear others to go the extra mile.
It’s for these reasons I love and cherish you.
For eternity I will stand by your side.
I pledge to guide you to become the best version of yourself.
The best citizen, the best parent, the best husband, or the best wife.
So polite, precious and smart you are,
So vibrant, reliable and caring too.
You love the Lord with your whole heart,
I have hope and meaning because of you.
The most important part of my life is being a good parent to you.
7 days a week, 365 days a year,
I cherish, salute and celebrate you.
My love for you has no ceiling.
Your birth was the most precious thing for me.
And I am glad you are here to stay.
Be blessed, be awesome, be incredible,
I wish you a long, safe and prosperous life.
“Happy Children’s Day!”
