A tribute to Miss Lou
A Fluffy woman
Beaming bright
Energetic and spiritedly
All the time
Born in St Mary
Cool and airy
The best by any test
In an island that is blessed
An author, folklorist playwright
Actor, broadcaster, story teller and comedian
Extraordinaire
A woman who came from country into town
And turned it upside down
A woman who against all odds
Placed Jamaica on the map
By taking Patois out of the closet
And putting it on top
At home and abroad
She was large and in charge
A woman dressed to the nines
Performing in pantomime after pantomime
Time after time
With talent and skills that boggled the mind
Oh! She was one of a kind
The ‘Lou and Ranny Show’
Had people glued to their radios
Day and night
And the inter-play with ‘Maas Ran’
Was an absolute delight
Each and every Saturday night
A witty woman tickling peoples brain
Leaving them in stitches all the time
‘Ring Ding’ was our favourite thing
Children would drop, dance and sing as she did her thing
In scene after scene on our tv screens
As a poet, she was better than the rest. Her words will stand the test of time
She was a story teller with unmatched skills giving us thrills
Over and over, again and again
An awe inspiring woman a pioneer, a matriarch loved and adored
By the young and the old
Impacting body, mind and soul
A cosmopolitan woman an iconic woman
A woman with the golden pen
Vibrant and engaging to the end
A heroine in our time and for all time
Walk good “Miss Lou”
WE LOVE YOU.

Mission
I have come to steer your ship through the twenty-first century
Some have seen me but can’t believe me
Some know me but conceal me for my safety and survival
Some hear me but don’t understand me
For I hear the sound of a different drummer
And I move in accordance
Not on a collision course
But a course pre- determined by a force bigger than me
Those who urge that I conform to the norm
Mean well I can tell
But have not fully grasped the reality of my existence
For I am greater than me
And my mission is to help shape your vision
As I journey through your world in a swirl
I transcend time
From a place that may blow your mind
To bring to you a taste of your tomorrow
I gel very well
On board with your mission
But your boats cannot house me
And I come not to devastate
But to create an era for which you yearn
A mission for which you burn
I take different forms
While conforming to the norm
Of your social order
A comic here, an intellectual there
As I co-exist in your habitat
