Robert Almeida has taken up a second position formerly held by Patrick Hylton, whose two-decade-old leadership of banking group NCB is wrapping up.

On Friday, August 4, Almeida, who has a central role in Michael Lee-Chin’s Portland companies, replaced Hylton as chairman of Guardian Holdings Limited, a large insurance conglomerate with regional operations that was taken over by NCB Financial Group in May 2019. Previously, Almeida was also named as interim head of NCB Financial amid a fallout in the leadership.

Lee-Chin is majority owner of NCB Financial through various companies.

At the takeover of Guardian, Hylton become chairman of the Trinidad-based insurance group, with NCB’s majority owner Michael Lee-Chin, Almeida and NCB Financial’s finance chief Dennis Cohen all holding directorships.

Hylon and Cohen were still directors of the Guardian and NCB Financial boards up to Tuesday. However, new developments are pending now that the three-week vacation they went on from July 18 has come to its end.

NCB Financial is scheduled to have a board meeting today, August 9.

However, the banking group has already said Hylton and Cohen will be replaced permanently. As affirmation of that, NCB Financial’s newly scheduled quarterly investor briefing set for Thursday will be led by Interim Group CEO Robert Almeida and Interim Group Chief Financial Officer Malcolm Sadler.
