Policeman killed in Grenada during military-style training

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – An investigation has been launched following the death of a member of the Royal Grenada Police Force during a military-style training exercise on Wednesday.

According to Head of the Community Relations Department Inspector Trevor Rodney, a batch of officers was engaged in the exercise when an accident occurred and one of the cops lost his life.

“An investigation will be conducted for the actual cause of death and the circumstances that surrounding the death of the constable,” said Rodney, who did not provide details.

“What I can say is that the training involved the use of water,” he said on Thursday.

Dead is Constable Ashton Calliste, who was attached to the Rapid Response Unit.

The training took place in Paradise River which is located in the eastern parish of St Andrew.

An autopsy is to be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.

Rodney said that the force is in a state of mourning for the officer who was previously attached to the St Andrew’s Police Station.
