NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – The Ministry of National Security says the police are investigating an apparent attempt by inmates to escape from the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services over the weekend.

In a brief statement, the ministry said that during a routine check of a male dormitory a hole was discovered in the ceiling above one of the cells last Friday.

It said officers from the department foiled a plot by two inmates to escape.

“The damage to the ceiling has been repaired and all inmates are accounted for. The two inmates are expected to be formally charged this week in connection with this incident,” the ministry said.

It gave no further details regarding the planned escape including the identity of the two inmates.
