GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The police have arrested a 27-year-old Cuban national in connection with the murder of his partner, Tara Krishnaran, and her 11-year-old daughter on Christmas Day.

The police report that Joel Rodriguez, known as Yoel Rodriguez Barientos, was arrested on Sunday.

It is suspected that Rodriguez committed the act sometime between Christmas night and Boxing Day at their home in Georgetown where the police recovered a blood-stained hammer and knife at the scene.

The woman’s father, who also lived at the house, told investigators that the couple was involved in an argument on the evening of December 25, following which a fight ensued.

The man said he went to bed since fights between the couple were a normal occurrence.

The man said he woke up the following morning but did not check on his daughter, thinking that she went to work and took her child, as is customary.

However, later in the day,  he made the gruesome discovery and saw his daughter lying motionless on a bed and his granddaughter on the floor.
