St Vincent's La Soufriere volcano erupts

The UWI Seismic Research is reporting that as of 8:41 am EST, an explosive eruption began at La Soufrière volcano in St Vincent.

The seismic activity began on April 8, the first time since 1979.

St Vincent’s national emergency office said the volcano has ‘moved into an explosive state’ with plumes up to 8 kilometres high.

"This is not a drill!" said St Vincent and The Grenadines' Tourism Minister Carlos James, warning residents in North Leeward to evacuate amid the La Soufriere volcano threat. He also said people arriving at gov't shelters will receive COVID vaccines. #GLNRToday pic.twitter.com/YFcj4ixmbi
