Trinidadian special reserve cop charged for robbing gas station in Grenada

ST GEORGES, Grenada, CMC – The police in Grenada have charged a Trinidadian man in connection with a robbery carried out at a gas station just over a week ago.

According to police reports, Christon Balboza, 27, is a special reserve police officer from the twin-island republic.

A special reserve police is one who may be called out for service in cases of external aggression or internal disturbance. 

The Royal Grenada Police Force says that Balboza was arrested and charged along with Stephen Francis, 28, a local fisherman, for the offence of robbery with violence in connection with the December 22 robbery at Grand Mal gas station.

The release that was issued on Friday said Francis was also charged with the offence of assault with a dangerous instrument.

Both men were remanded to His Majesty's Prison and are scheduled to return to court on January 10.

The police report that on the evening of December 22 they received a complaint of a robbery at the business establishment.

Officers responded and preliminary enquiries revealed that masked individuals entered the business place demanding money from a member of staff.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed sum of money but were later held by the police.

According to Grenada's criminal code, whoever commits robbery being armed with any offensive instrument or having made any preparation for using force or causing harm will be liable to imprisonment for 30 years.
