Three quakes rattle Caribbean islands over a 48 hour period

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Several Caribbean countries have been rattled by earthquakes over the last 48 hours with the latest occurring on Friday when a quake with a magnitude of 4.7 was felt in St Kitts-Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda.

The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Center (SRC) of the St Augustine campus of the University (UWI) said the quake was felt in 277 km north of Basseterre, the St Kitts-Nevis capital and 303 km , north, north west of the  Antigua and Barbuda capital, St John's.

As had been the case when the region was rattled by two earthquakes on Thursday, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

On Thursday, the SRC reported that a quake with a magnitude of 3.8 was felt 146 km north east of St John's in Antigua and Barbuda, 186 km north east of point-a-Pitre in the French island of Guadeloupe and 233 km east north east of Basseterre in St Kitts-Nevis.

The second quake on Thursday occurred two minutes later at 3.35 was felt 122 km, north east of St John's in Antigua and Barbuda and 160 km north east of the French island of Guadeloupe and 213 km east of Basseterre of St Kitts-Nevis.
