The police say they are actively investigating all reports.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the National Security Minister, Fitzgerald Hinds, Friday warned that those responsible for engaging in activities that undermine safety and security in schools would be pursued and dealt with according to the law.

The warning came after several institutions across the island were evacuated today arising from security concerns.

Hinds says the situation is not being taken lightly.

And the police said they are actively investigating all reports.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association, Martin Lum Kin, says schools across the country have been dismissed as his members are not taking any chances.

“Schools would have taken the necessary steps in order to ensure the safety of the occupants,” he said, adding that the association condemns the actions of persons who would seek to undermine the safety of schools and students.

Similar sentiments were expressed by the Ministry of Education.

"The Ministry of Education strongly condemns these reckless actions which destabilise our nation's schools and interrupt the education of our students. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the police service forthwith,” the ministry said.
