Government legislator in Bahamas on rape and death threat charges
NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC - Government legislator Kirk Cornish was remanded after he was charged Wednesday with two counts of rape against a 35-year-old woman.
Cornish, who on Tuesday was forced to resign as Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, faces two additional counts of assault and threats of death against the same woman.
The prosecution said that the crimes allegedly took place in Coopers Town, Abaco, and in Nassau, New Providence.
Cornish was not required to enter a plea to the allegations when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.
The matter was adjourned to October 17 with attorney Owen Wells indicating that he wants an early trial date and would be seeking bail immediately for his client.
