American woman granted bail on charge of plotting to murder husband in Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – A High Court judge has granted US$100,000 bail to an American woman accused of plotting to kill her husband.

Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson approved the variation application for bail for Lindsay Shiver, 36, of Thomasville, Georgia, who along with two Bahamian nationals, were charged on June 28 with conspiracy to commit murder.

A restraining order for the estranged couple was also issued by the court, which was also attended by the chief of American Citizen Services at the US Embassy, Lance Peterson.

The prosecution alleges that the accused plotted to kill Mrs Shiver's husband, Robert, in Abaco on July 16.

But the plot was reportedly discovered after the authorities seized a phone while investigating another crime in Guana Cay.

Mr Shiver reportedly filed for divorce from his wife after allegedly uncovering the alleged affair between her and one of her co-conspirators.

Mrs Shiver was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services after she was unable to post the cash bail of US$100,000 last Tuesday.

Her two co-accused, Terrance Bethel, 28, and Faron Newbold Jr, 29, posted their $20,000 cash bail and had their passports confiscated.

They are also to be fitted with monitoring devices.

As part of her bail conditions, the American woman must report to a police station three times a week, must follow a residential curfew of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (local time), and was ordered to remain 100ft away from her husband.

She was also informed that her passport would remain in the custody of the US Embassy and that she must also report to the court before making any travel arrangements.
