BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The date for the rape trial of Barbados' former Deputy Speaker of the House and Member of Parliament Neil Rowe has been set for June 11.

Rowe was arraigned on Thursday morning in the Supreme Court.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge that he had sexual intercourse with a woman on September 18, 2022, without her consent, knowing she did not consent or was reckless as to whether she consented.

He was represented by Senior Counsel Michael Lashley.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mia Mottley defended the decision to remove Neil Rowe as deputy speaker of the Parliament, saying it will allow him to deal with a matter he faces before the High Court.
