Jamaican woman jailed in Antigua for escaping from immigration custody
ST JOHN'S, Antigua, CMC – A magistrate court in Antigua on Tuesday sentenced a Jamaican woman to seven months in jail for escaping lawful custody.
Tiffanie Stephanie Howell, 30, who was on the run for the past week, surrendered to the Immigration Department on Sunday and was sentenced at the All Saints Magistrate Court when she appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emmanuel.
On January 20, Howell and another Jamaican, 23-year-old Donnalee Samantha Salmon, escaped the Immigration Department's Detention Center where they were being housed by breaking a bathroom window.
Howell, who was charged with escaping lawful custody, appeared in the All Saints Magistrate's Court where she pleaded guilty to the charge that carries a maximum one-year jail term.
The authorities continue to appeal to the public for assistance in locating Salmon who remains on the run.
The authorities warn the public that they should refrain from aiding, sheltering, or approaching her and anyone with information about Salmon's whereabouts should contact the Immigration Enforcement Unit.
