Crystal deSouza-Brown | Jamaican dream attainable through surrender to God
It is a truism that what we put in is what we will get out; what we sow is what we will undoubtedly reap. We as a nation cannot be sowing seeds of the devil and not expect to reap all types of atrocities.
It satisfies us when we are esteemed a godly people, but have we been really living up to such a lofty standard placed on us as a people? Do we take the time out to carefully analyse our actions so as to discover its correlation to this standard? If it is the number of churches that has caused us to conclude that we know God and are a godly people, we are being deceived, for the many rum bars erected and are still in construction, in addition to the loathsome dancehall music we glorify, contradicts such a delusional thought. Merely going to church on a Saturday or a Sunday, singing a few hymns and reciting a few prayers neither makes us godly, nor does it qualify us to be called a godly people.
We want to be associated with God, but simultaneously we want to indulge lawlessness and immorality. Thank God for the faithful few who, like righteous Lot sitting at the gate to the city of Sodom and Gomorrah, sighed and groaned daily because of the atrocities he witnessed. If it were not for them there would be no Jamaica land we love, for it would all sink like Port Royal. As a people, we need to decide which side we are on, which master we will serve; if it is God, we will need to surrender our being in its entirety to God, not half slopping towards Sodom and Gomorrah and a half to God, but all riveted upon God.
Source of love and peace
Our dream is for Jamaica to be a place where love and peace abide, but do we not know that we can achieve no such thing without God? For God is the only source from whence love and peace flows. God is more than able to heal our country; God is willing to wash away the sins of our people with His cleansing blood He shed for us all on Calvary's cross and start anew with us, but we as a people will need to show Him that we need His healing by submitting our lives to His will and His way.
The Almighty God who is all knowing and unchanging had declared, "If my people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.
These merciful words declared by The Almighty God years ago embody our country's solution; only God has the power to fix our brokenness; what our country need is divine intervention, the powerful healing hands of The Almighty God, and I do hope we as a people know this for I see us looking to other sources who are completely powerless to fix our country; and are only thrusting it into the worst state as a result of them exposing our people to the dark forces of evil.
