As the presidential election approaches, Democrats are buzzing with enthusiasm. This fervour is critical; it can drive the momentum that determines the winner.

The stakes in this 2024 presidential election are extremely high; this election is about more than just achieving a historic presidency. It represents a chance to steer America away from what many perceive as the chaos and divisiveness brought on by Donald Trump.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has been a formidable advocate for Kamala Harris, passionately urging voters at a Michigan rally not to “hand our fates over to the likes of Trump”.

Trump’s campaign, marked by incendiary rhetoric and a tendency to pander to his base, appears increasingly disconnected from the broader electorate. His recent rally at Madison Square Garden drew criticism, particularly following the remarks of a guest comedian who echoed Trump’s derogatory comments about immigrants and Puerto Rico.

This backlash may have alienated potential voters, including the Puerto Rican community, even though they cannot vote in federal elections.

Notably, influential figures like Bad Bunny, a major Reggaeton star, have rallied behind Harris, leveraging their platforms to mobilise younger voters. With a massive following, these celebrities can significantly impact public opinion and voter turnout among Gen-Z, a critical demographic for Harris.

Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Eminem and many other superstars’ political endorsement is helping to drive Gen-Z voters to the polls.

NAIL-BITING RACE LIES AHEAD

Polling data from FiveThirtyEight, a trusted source, shows Harris narrowly leading Trump by one percentage point in key swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Georgia. Winning these swing states is crucial to VP Harris presidential victory.

This is VP Kamala Harris’ narrow path to victory that I predicted in my August 21, 2024, Gleaner commentary. So far, my forecast is dead correct, as correlated by early voting and other political trends.

The generic ballot, which gauges voter intentions and preferences, indicates that Democrats currently hold a slight edge. With election just days away, VP Harris still has a narrow edge, 48 per cent to Donald Trump’s 47 per cent.

This looks like the candidates are heading for a possible nail-biting finish, but Harris has the momentum and may well pull off an anticipated historic victory.

Early voting data show that of the 31 million voters who have cast their ballots nationwide, 40 per cent are Democrats compared to 36 per cent Republicans. This early advantage could play a significant role in determining the election outcome.

Michigan is one of the most crucial swing states. It is home to a significant Muslim and Arab American population who accuse President Joe Biden and VP Harris of being indifferent to Palestinians death, and inhumane suffering from Israel’s year-long war which has severely affected mostly women and children.

Despite this dilemma, Kamala Harris has won overall strong appeal among voter’s care who say that she has a better economic plan than Trump to improve their lives. Vice President Harris’ proposal to cut taxes for 100 million Americans is resonating powerfully with voters.

My friends, VP Harris and her Democratic Party face significant challenges, particularly among Black male voters. This demographic has expressed feelings of betrayal regarding key policy issues, notably stemming from racial tensions regarding unjust police killings.

While some young Black voters have returned to the Democratic fold, a substantial portion of Black men remains sceptical about Harris’ commitment to their interests.

A recent economic survey found that 30 per cent of black males say that over the last four years life has become much harder, and they are now forced to do two jobs just to survive.

In 2020, 92 per cent of Black voters backed Joe Biden, yet current figures suggest only 77 per cent intend to support Harris in this cycle. This decline is alarming and could jeopardise her campaign unless she can address these concerns effectively.

Given their justified concerns, Kamala has developed an economic plan to address the concerns of young black males. She has also stressed a renewed focus on social justice.

Harris has several avenues to potentially regain support:

• Appeal to disenchanted Republicans who have distanced themselves from Trump.

• Capitalise on the enthusiasm of women voters focused on healthcare and reproductive rights.

• Over-perform among the 41 million younger Gen -Z voters aged 18-34 years.

At the end of the day, it is going to be votes in the ballot box that matters. Will Kamala Harris prevail?

A NEW DAY DAWNS WITH KAMALA!

My dear friends, ultimately the outcome of this election rests heavily on Harris’ ability to connect with voters on a personal level. She must harness the energy of her campaign to engage with diverse communities and address their specific concerns.

The pressure is on her, as her success hinges on how effectively she can unify various factions within the Democratic Party while also appealing to independents and disenchanted Republicans.

Harris has made strides in overcoming expectations, especially given her background in the Biden administration. However, she faces a challenging media landscape, where conservative outlets have often portrayed her in an unfavourable light.

This scrutiny could either serve as a hindrance or a motivator for her campaign as she navigates the backstretch towards a highly anticipated possible victory.

Mark Cuban, a billionaire entrepreneur, is another vocal supporter, praising Harris for her policy expertise, integrity, and understanding of the issues. In a recent interview, he highlighted her leadership qualities, and commends her as an inspiring, transformative candidate capable of making history.

This 2024 presidential election represents a critical juncture for Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. With enthusiasm among the electorate, particularly young voters, and a focus on pivotal issues, Harris can solidify her position as a transformative leader.

Don’t throw wey Yu tickets yet!

Kamala down di backstretch!

To the finish line, neck an’ neck!

‘Tis di dawn of history – ah new day come!

The next few days will be crucial; the energy she and her campaign bring to this fight will ultimately determine whether she can capitalise on this moment and lead the country in a new direction as America’s 47th President!

That is just the ‘bitta’ truth
