Utan Green ready to hit the road again
Reggae singer Utan Green says that so much has been happening for him recently that he is confident that 2019 will be a great year. Following a dry spell musically, in which he took time to watch his kids grow and welcome his grandchildren, the veteran singer is now ready to hit the road again.
“I travelled extensively in my early days, so it was a joy to relax and care for my family. To watch your kids grow and reach perfection is a good feeling. But right now I am preparing myself to take on the world again,” he said.
Last year, he signed a five-album deal with Wayne Gordon’s New York Entertainment Movement LLC and the first album, which is titled House Of Love, is almost ready. He explained that the production team is now working on the bonus tracks for the album, because “we want to get it right”.
“We released two singles last year and they are available on Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora. The songs are Purpose of Life and How We Flow,” Green said.
TAKE ON THE WORLD
The singer, who says that he has been in the business so long that he is evolving, is preparing himself to take on the world. Come summer, he will be heading to Europe where he will be performing on Reggae Jam, a major reggae, dancehall, ska and dub music festival held annually in Bersenbrück, Germany, and he expects to get additional confirmed dates soon.
“The ’19 looking real good. Mi love how it look,” Green declared.
Green started out in the reggae business with a group called The Invaders, which comprised himself, his brother and his sister. Later, Junior Reid introduced them to Don Carlos of Black Uhuru, who produced their first recordings,Cry of a Poor Man, andDown in the Ghetto. The group enjoyed some success, but was later dismantled when his sister migrated and Green launched a solo career.
He subsequently made a name for himself in the ’80s as part of the Manchester-based sound system Destiny Outernational, which featured a host of artistes, including the late Garnet Silk, Everton Blender, Tony Rebel, Yasus Afari, Kulcha Knox, Deuteronomy, Little Meekie, Daddy Meekie, and Little Kirk.
In the ’90s, Green joined the red-hot Flames Crew in Kingston, and that decade saw him releasing a slew of songs for various producers, among them his most well-known singles Cyaan Tek on the Shocking Vibes label and No Looking Back, which was released on the Flames’ Lalabella riddim. Other songs in his repertoire include The Poor Cyaan Tek It No More,Victory to be Won, Man of Love, Jah For Now and Forever, Falcon Crest Woman, Answer To All Jah’s Questions, and Rivers of Realities.
