Popular YouTuber Jayda Cheaves to appear in court today
Twenty-four-year-old YouTuber and social media influencer Jayda Cheaves, known popularly by her moniker Jayda Wayda, is to appear in court to answer charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Cheaves and a member of her entourage, 24-year-old Gregory Wright of a Florida address, are scheduled to appear in the Western Regional Gun Court today.
According to a release sent by the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the two US citizens were preparing to depart the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, aboard a private jet on Monday when "anomalies" were reportedly discovered in the luggage of the two foreign nationals.
Police personnel were alerted by their Jamaica Customs counterparts at approximately 1:11 p.m., and a search was conducted by law enforcement.
Two black cases, each containing a 9mm pistol, were handed over. The release said the US citizens admitted to owning the firearms. However, checks later revealed they had failed to declare the items upon their arrival on the island.
They were subsequently charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and were offered station bail.
Cheaves is a mother to a son with rapper Lil Baby. She is an ambassador for brands such as Pretty Little Thing and Savage x Fenty and was on the island celebrating her 24th birthday. The Atlanta-based influencer has over 5.9 million followers on Instagram and over 160,000 on Twitter. Her YouTube page currently sits at 328,000 subscribers.
