Zinc Fence to bring dancehall vibe to ‘Ochi’
Stone Love, Flourgon, Ching on the line-up
The Easter weekend is known as much for the religious aspect as it is for the hosting of secular entertainment. On the calendar this year is Zinc Fence Dancehall Party in Ocho Rios, which the promoters say aims to bring back that original dancehall vibe to the town.
It features two sounds in a “lawn”, Stone Love and Hyperactive, along with veteran deejay Flourgon, as well as Chi Ching Ching and the Get There Squad.
“Ocho Rios is famous for Jack Ruby sound and they even named the street that they used to keep that dance on ‘Jack Ruby Avenue’. It’s a town that’s known for original dancehall. We are calling the event Zinc Fence because, back in the day, dem use to beat pon di zinc fence as a forward. We are bringing that vibe back to Ocho Rios and no better sound to start off with than Stone Love, a sound that break so many artistes. For the young people, we have Hyperactive, because we want them to appreciate that original dancehall vibe,” Sean ‘Contractor’ Edwards, one of the promoters, told The Gleaner.
The idea is to have Flourgon doing his live deejay set on Stone Love, while Ching, quite appropriately, will do his set on Hyperactive.
Flourgon already has his set locked and Ching is ready with his shoe “pointed straight at Mongoose Restaurant” this Saturday.
“First of all, I will start with some of my classic hits like We Run Tings, Love mi Lover Bad, One Foot Skank and all of those. After that segment, I will move on to my new songs. One call Ready to Say [is] doing well right now and yuh know, we coulda give dem a lickle Nyabinghi chant if ah feel like. At the end of the day, we have to bring back the love. So come out with di family and have a good vibes. Flourgon always run tings,” Flourgon told The Gleaner.
An exuberant Ching stated, “Di country fly! Vroom! I am so excited that the country open up back. We deh outside again! Mi want everybody shoe a point at Mongoose Restaurant. Onnu dun know seh mi have di song name Vaccine and mi have the follow-up, Booster Shot. Look out for the unexpected.”
