Twenty-one-year-old law student Aundrene Cameron will represent St Catherine in this year’s national festival queen finals.

St Catherine last held the festival queen title in 2019 when Khamara Wright secured the national crown, which she held for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cameron is aiming to follow in her parishioner’s footsteps.

“I definitely plan to take home the title, I am a perfectionist, so I plan to improve in the areas where necessary to achieve this feat. I have some work to do,” Cameron told The Gleaner after she was crowned parish festival queen.

It was not a surprise to the patrons at the Cedar Grove Academy Auditorium that Cameron took the top title after she captured three sectional prizes, namely Best Performer, Most Culturally Aware and Most Active in her Community.

As parish queen, Cameron plans to work with homes and schools on a programme that will seek to empower women and girls as the country grapples with violence against women and girls.

“l also want to ensure that women are able to become active participants in different aspects of the economy, governance and nation-building,” she added.

Second place in the competition went to 23-year-old Toni Janae Natalia Woodburn, who holds a bachelor of science degree in tourism management, while 21-year-old Mico University College student Sadara-Ahindi Dyer placed third.
