Miss World's first dance at the Jaycees Ball to welcome her goes to Minister of Development and Welfare, the Hon. Edward Seaga . The ball took place at the Sheraton Hotel on November 30, 1963, and Mr Seaga was among those who welcomed Miss World back to Jamaica.

Carole Joan Crawford was crowned Miss World in 1963. The 20-year-old was the first Jamaican to win the competition and also the first from the Caribbean. Standing at five feet, three inches tall, she is the shortest to have ever won the competition.
