The Washington State Patrol caught a driver using the high-occupancy lane on the highway with a model skeleton – decked out in a fluorescent hoodie – as his qualifier. To be able to legally drive in that lane, drivers need to have a human companion.
Trooper Rick Johnson wrote on Twitter: “SB 405 near Coal Creek.
#DoesNotCount for HOV. #GottaBeAlive.”
According to a news report from WSDOT in September: “Violators could be fined $186 for the first offence and up to $536 for those who are repeat offenders and also have a mannequin, doll or dummy to make it appear as if there’s another person in the car.”
