A tiny town in Italy boasts nearly 10 residents over the age of 100
Perdasdefogu, a village on the Italian island of Sardinia, will host a party of an expected 1,765 guests to mark the 100th birthdays of Vittorio Lai and Piuccia Lai this month, taking the total of centenarians in the town to ten.
Luisa Salaris, professor of demographics at the University of Cagliari, told the Guardian: "The presence of 10 centenarians confirms the the exceptional longevity of the inhabitants of Perdasdefogu, and moves the bar even higher.”
Across the island, there are 534 people across the island 100 years or older, translating to 33.6 people for every 100,000. Experts cite the town’s clean air, high levels of activity and healthy food as the reason.
