Britain's army chief receives warm welcome
Earl Mountbatten arrived in Jamaica for a three-day visit. He came in from Antigua. Princess Alice was among the guests at a dinner party held in his honour at King's House. His schedule also included a polo match at Caymanas Park.

Mountbatten Arrives
Admiral of the Fleet Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Chief of Britain’s Defence Staff, arrived at Palisadoes Airport about 6:35 p.m. yesterday by an RAF Comet from Antigua.
Lord Mountbatten was met as he stepped off the plane by the Governor, Sir Kenneth Blackburne, Brigadier Derek Lister, Commander, Caribbean Area; the Resident Naval Officer, Lt Commander Gilhespy; Mr L. P. R. Browning, Commissioner of Police, and Lt Col M. McClure Williams of the West India Regiment. Others at the ramp where the governor’s car was waiting included Lt Richard Carr, ADC to the governor; BOAC’s Christopher Spurrier and airport manager Clinton Alexander.
A dinner party was given at King’s House last night in honour of Lord Mountbatten. Guests including HRH Princess Alice, the Lord Bishop of Jamaica, Rt Rev Percival Gibson; Lt Col David Smith, Commanding Officer, First Battalion, West Indies Regiment; Sir Alexander Bustamante, the governor’s secretary and the two ADCs.
Today’s schedule for Lord Mountbatten includes a visit to Up Park Camp, a meeting at Curphey Place with members of the Jamaica Legion and the RAF Association, luncheon with the Test teams at Sabina Park, and a polo match at Caymanas Park. He will be here until March 12.
