Second woman to be appointed resident magistrate in Jamaica'
Miss Joyce Groves has created history as she was the second woman to attain the position of resident magistrate in Jamaica. The first woman to hold this title was Mrs Ena Collymore-Woodstock.

Appointed Resident Magistrate
Miss Joyce Groves, the clerk of court, has been appointed to be a resident magistrate, with immediate effect.
Miss Groves read law at Lincoln’s Inn and was called to the Bar on February 9, 1954. She was admitted to practice in Jamaica on March 25, 1954, and was appointed a deputy clerk of court in April 1954. In November last year, she acted as resident magistrate in St Ann and, last month, performed similar duties in St Mary.
Miss Groves is the second woman to be appointed a resident magistrate in Jamaica – the first being Mrs Ena Collymore-Woodstock.
