The administration and classroom building at the St Andrew Trade Training Centre, Bumper Hall, which was built with a grant of $50,000 from the United States Agency for International Development. The building supplements the workshops already built by the Jamaica Government.
Using small boards, this class in electrical installation makes its connections and adjustments in electrical wiring by following schematic diagrams. Much theoretical study of electricity and its related mathematics goes on parallel with the practical work.
Two young artisans were working on a metal shaper as they fashion plain bits of steal, brass, or other metals into precision instruments. Several fine adjustments have to be made and the work carefully watched to avoid errors that could waste time, ruin the project, or damage the machinery.
A machine lathe is adjusted and set to work slowly as the metalwork instructor looks on at left.
Three youngsters are going over a car with an electronic tune-up tester, while instructor H. G. Bull (in glasses) supervises.
