THE ST Andrew North police are probing a daring daylight robbery in which a retired business executive was relieved of an undetermined sum of cash along East Kings House Rd in St Andrew by men posing as Good Samaritans.

The Gleaner understands that, at about 11 a.m. yesterday, the former businessman completed a transaction at the Barbican Centre in St Andrew.

On leaving the premises, the men flagged down his vehicle and made him aware that he had a flat tyre.

The men then offered assistance to change the tyre and proceeded to jack up the car.

According to the police, during the process, one of the males went inside the vehicle and stole the complainant’s cash, wallet and cellular phone.

They then left the scene, one after the other, leaving behind the complainant, whose identity The Gleaner has withheld due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.

The police said the former businessman was not harmed.

The police are warning unsuspecting individuals to be aware of unscrupulous persons, who are using different tactics to hold up unsuspecting citizens and commit robberies.

The Constant Spring police are investigating the incident.

The St Andrew North Police Division has recorded a decline in robberies since the start of the year.

Up to May 27, there were 17 robberies – 13, or 43.3 per cent, fewer than the 30 recorded during the corresponding period in 2021.

Nationally, there were 366 reports of robberies over the period this year.
