POWER FOR THE PEOPLE: The Maggotty Power Station, completed in 1960, not only served that section of the island with much-needed power but also had a line which ran to Kingston.
FOR HIGHER LEARNING: St Gabriel's Academy was this modern building in Balaclava. A Catholic school, it had accommodation for over 500 pupils.
