The governor general of Canada, Roland Michener, greets the children of May Pen Junior Secondary School, which he visited on Thursday, February 12, 1969. He was entertained with songs by the children and later he toured a number of classrooms. Beside Michener is T.H. Donaldson, chairman of the school board, and behind them is Dr Arthur Burt, parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Education.

Jamaicans lined the streets to welcome the  Canadian governor general to Jamaica. He received a 21-gun salute and met with several government and business leaders upon his arrival.
