Credit Union contest

 Semi-finalists selected

The selection of the semi-finalists who will vie for the Miss Credit Union 1963 beauty title was the highlight of the tea party held at the Myrtle bank Hotel on Wednesday afternoon. It was the first of a series of functions designed to celebrate October as International Credit Union month.

Eight contestants who represented various credit union branches in the Corporate Area paraded before judges Mrs Lynette McFarlane, Mr Hugh Maxfield, and Mr Gene McDonald.

Tea accompanied by tea-leaf reading and lively conversations at the many tables set on the lawns preceded the parade. Mr Keith Hall, managing director of the Credit Union League, welcomed the guests and introduced Mr. O. J. Thorbourne, second vice-president of the League. Mr Thorbourne introduced the judges, the MC Miss Marlene Sampson, and a special overseas guest, Mr Owen Tucker from British Honduras. Credit Union leader Mr Tucker later participated in the drawing of the duos prize, which is two tickets to the twenty-first anniversary banquet at the Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, October 19.

Appearing for the judges' nod were Prudence Chung in a brown jersey sheath worn with a white hat and shoes and brown gloves.

Next came Marie Distin in a green floral silk dress with white accessories. She was followed by Sonia Marks in a brown and white jersey suit. June Johnson appeared in a pastel blue linen suit set off by a white organdie picture hat with a large rose, and the parade was completed with the appearance of Rosemary Heron, Angela Provost-Heron, Lois Monaghan, and Patricia Hanson.

After much deliberation, the judges’ decision was announced by Mr Gene McDonald, and the results were Prudence Chung, Sonia Marks, June Johnson, Lois Monaghan, and Patricia Hanson.
