Photo Flashback: New projects at The Jamaica School of Music

Augustus Brathwaite from Barbados who came to Jamaica to complete his violin studies at The School of Music, and is now preparing for his LRSM diploma.
Gillian Verity chose the clarinet as her main study when she came to The School of Music in September 1963. She studied piano up to the time she left England with her parents in 1962.

TOWARDS the end of 159, a committee was appointed by the government to make recommendations for the establishment of a school of music in Jamaica.  The school became a reality in September 1961 when, with four teachers and an enrolment of 52 students, classes started in a rented building at 89 Hope Road.
