Champion baby crowned at Cow and Gate Baby Show

Eleven-month-old Nigel Andrew Polack clinched the top spot as the champion baby at the annual Cow and Gate Baby Show. He received several prizes. Seven-month-old Karen Chin and David Roche secured the second prizes, and third-prize honours went to Charmaine Beverley Berry and Francesca Juliet Pawson.

Baby Champ

Eleven-month-old Nigel Andrew Polack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neville Polack, of 29 Red Hills Road, emerged champion baby out of a field of about 50 entrants in the annual Cow and Gate Baby Show held on the third floor of Issa’s King Street retail store on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Weighing seven pounds, 12 ounces at birth, the champion now weighs 24 pounds.

Mrs. Sydney Levy, wife of the Managing Director of Levy Brothers, presented the prizes on behalf of the sponsors. The champion received a silver trophy to be kept for one year, a small silver cup, five guineas, and a gift package from the sponsors. Other prizes were a gift certificate for five pounds from Issa’s and one year’s supply of vitamins from Parke Davis. Mr. Colin Roberts presented the prizes on behalf of Parke Davis.

 

Two second prizes went to seven-month-old Karen Chin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Chin of 15½ Camperdown Road, and David Roche, 9½-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Roche of 40 Martella Drive, Harbour View. They received small silver cups, three guineas, and a gift package from the sponsors and six months' supply of vitamins from Parke Davis.

Third-prize winners were 8½ month-old Charmaine Beverley Berry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Berry, of 3 Woodgien Drive, and 9¼-month-old Francesca Juliet Pawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pawson of 35 Sullivan Avenue. Their prizes were small silver cups, one guinea, and a gift package from the sponsors and six months' supply of vitamins from Parke Davis.

Mrs. Cynthia Wilmot emceed the show. A film entitled “Historic Jamaica” was shown.

Judges were Drs. C. T. Western, G. K. Lord,  Norman Lord, and Roland Richmond. Cow and Gate nurses in attendance included Nurses I. Webster, Sylvia Farrier, and Sister Betty McFaydene.

The show was for babies between the ages of six months and one year. Each entrant receive a gift package from the sponsors.
