Fashion houses dazzle at Miss Kingston and St. Andrew event
At the Miss Kingston and St. Andrew tea party, fashion houses Francis Keane and Farel of New York showcased their latest designs. Francis Keane presented daywear, culminating in three stunning wedding gowns, while Farel featured bush jacket suits for lunch and unique formal outfits, including a white brocade dinner jacket and a cherry red polyester jacket with gold lame trim. The programme was hosted by Gladstone Wilson and Elaine Wint, with fashion commentary by Leonie Forbes-Amiel. Last year’s Miss Kingston and St. Andrew winner, Gail Phillips, and runners-up Dorothy Naylor and Fay Chambers also graced the stage.

Beauties and Fashions
TWENTY TWO contestants for the Miss Kingston and St. Andrew beauty made their first appearance at a tea party in the ballroom of the Kingston Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday afternoon.
The contestants ranged from seventeen to twenty-two years, and several were students. They are Verna Desnoes, Denise Bethune; Kereda Chambers, Jean-Marie Keane, Charmaine Awla, Maria Moore, Diane Levy,Lola Walker, Fay Daley; Patricia Grant; Eleanor Hackry; Monica Potts; Loi Munroe; Claudette Oswald, Jeanette Watson, Downet Dunbar, Delores Brown, and Sandra Donaldson.
The audience was welcomed by the Rev. Fr. Louis Grenier, S.J, the Chairman of the Kingston and St. Andrew Festival Committee. Entertainment was by Faith D’Aguilar, who sang and recited dialect verses. Mike Thompson played the organ.
Two fashion houses, Francis Keane and Farel of New York, presented some of their designs. Mrs. Keane’s ensembles were for various hours of the day, culminating in a trio of wedding gowns. Farel showed bush jacket suits, mainly for lunch, as well as unusual outfits for formal occasions. One such was a dinner jacket of white brocade. Another was of cherry red polyester with gold lame trim.
The programme was chaired by Gladstone Wilson and Elaine Wint, with fashion commentary by Leonie Forbes-Amiel.
Miss Gail Phillips, winner of last year’s Miss Kingston and St. Andrew and Miss Jamaica beauty titles, made an appearance on stage along with runners-up Dorothy Naylor and Fay Chambers.
