In July 2005, Hurricane Dennis unleashed torrential rains and severe winds on Jamaica, causing widespread flooding and forcing nearly 2,000 residents to seek refuge in emergency shelters. The hurricane's centre passed 60 kilometres off the island's north-eastern coast, but its impact was felt nationwide. The saturated ground and continuous downpour led to significant road blockages and heightened the risk of landslides. Despite the challenges, the Jamaican government and disaster preparedness agencies mobilised swiftly to address the crisis, ensuring the safety and well-being of affected communities.
