Wolmer’s retain Sunlight Cup

SCRAPPY FIELDING from Kingston College and some good running between wickets were two of the factors that pushed Wolmer’s along to retain the Sunlight Cricket Cup at Sabina Park yesterday.

Final scores were: Kingston College 15, Wolmer's 162 for eight.
At close on Wednesday, Kingston College were 110 for seven with Clifford Bell on 24 and Ivor Lodge to join him.

Bell took his total on to 45, as he added another 21 to emerge as top scorer for his team but the last three batsmen failed to reach double figures.
Wayne Fullwood who had taken two for seven overnight claimed another two more – Bell and Tyrel Carty – to finish with four for nine runs off 9.2 overs of which five were maidens.

"Wolmer's were never expected to have great difficulty in passing this modest-seeming total, especially with Shell Shield centurion Jeff Dujon included in their line-up. But this was not so as they had to fight all the way to victory.

Good start

They got off to a good start as openers Anthony Sewell and Carl Sutherland put on 38 for the first wicket partnership before Sutherland was bowled by Gordon for 23. Fitzgerald Lee was next in and along with Sewell pushed the total to 92 when Sewell was caught off the bowling of George Atkins for 38.

Excitement reigned as Dujon came in, but after some quick singles and with the score on 123 he was caught off the bowling of Lodge.

After Dujon's departure runs were hard to get as neither Collin Williams nor Lee could withstand the accurate bowling of Paul Ellis and Gordon which forced them on the defence. The pressure eventually paid dividends and Williams was trapped by Gordon and caught behind by wicketkeeper Mark Neita for 5.

The dramatic moment came when Glen Campbell went in and facing his second ball, placed it to the boundary for four to set Wolmer's past the Kingston College total. He was then bowled by the ball that followed, for four. The other batsman to follow Fullwood went for a duck.

Gordon finished with the best bowling figures for Kingston College taking five for 37. George Atkins and Lodge took one each.
