Nerine Barrett’s recital
With a delightful piano recital on Wednesday night last, Miss Nerine Barrett opened the new series of fortnightly Hilary Term programmes of the Music Society of the University of the West Indies at the Arts Concert Theatre of the university.
Playing to an appreciative and capacity audience, whose vigorous applause was an indication of the enthusiasm with which her performance was received, she began with a Mozart Sonata in C major for the first part of the programme, and continued with a very well-received Bartók Suite, Op 114, and a Chopin Ballade in F minor.
In the second half, she performed two Chopin Preludes, No. 3 in G major and No. 11 in B major, continued with a Chopin Nocturne in C minor, and concluded on a sparkling Prokofiev Sonata No. 2 in D minor.
She was brought back for two encores and was presented with a basket of flowers from the children of the Ena Helps Studio of Music.
The UWI Music Society advertised that the next programme is scheduled to consist of an 'Evening of Music', especially folk songs from various lands, presented by the University Singers.
