Saint models make history with double vogue booking
The March issue of American Vogue, has placed Kingston-based Jamaican model management company Saint International in the fashion history books.
The worlds most prestigious and influential magazine has booked two of Saint's models in a mind-blowing editorial spread featuring six of the world's top black models. Saint Models Kai Newman (represented by ONE Management New York) and Tami Williams (represented by Elite New York) were the models in the much-talked-about editorial dubbed Light Brigade. This is the first time a Caribbean-based agency has achieved such a feat of two models in an extensive editorial in the US Vogue. Even more impressive, is that none of the other four black models is represented by a single-mother agency.
Anyway one looks at the numbers, it's impressive. Saint International's CEO Deiwght Peters is the chief architect of the careers of these models. "It's a dream moment for any agent in the world. A super-proud moment for Saint, and for Jamaica. I am delirious with excitement," breathed an understandably upbeat Peters.
He added, "For two girls from a Jamaican agency to be featured on the pages of what is the most prestigious and influential fashion magazine in the world", the timing is perfect as Saint celebrates 15 years of model management this year.
The girls were selected for the multi-page spread by major league fashion power brokers including legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour and uber-stylist Grace Coddington. The photographer was revered lens-man Peter Lindbergh who is credited with the start of the supermodel era after his still-referenced cover of British Vogue (January 1990) featuring supermodels of the day Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christie Turlington. The creative team also included industry legends Mark Carrasquillo and Odile Gilbert on make up. The location was Palmdale California.
The shoot demonstrates that Saint models Tami and Kai are among the world's most prominent and are a new generation of supermodels. Both girls were discovered, groomed, and placed internationally by Peters. He is integrally involved in the day-to-day job selection for the girls which is not the norm. "I am proud of the life-changing impact Saint has had on these young models. Their lives and careers will never be the same after US Vogue," notes Peters.
The girls have appeared for major international designers for what is called the 'Fashion Olympics' (Fashon week). Among the designers they have walked for are Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, and Diane Von Furstenberg, just to name a few.
