Kerr-Jarrett cops top honours in LIME Jerk Festival

WESTERN BUREAU:Attorney-at-law Paula Kerr-Jarrett took top honours in the LIME Montego Bay Jerk Festival, which was held at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre in the Second City on Emancipation Day.

Kerr-Jarrett came out ahead of former member of parliament for North East St Elizabeth and chief executive officer of Best of Jamaica Television, Kern Spencer, who placed second. Chairman of Reggae Sumfest, Robert Russell, placed third, while opposition spokesman on tourism, Edmund Bartlett, and state minister in the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Commerce, Sharon Ffolkes-Abrahams, placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The competitors were judged in the categories of taste, cleanliness of work station and condiments used. Each contestant was allowed to have an assistant to assist with the preparatory work, and were allotted one hour in which to prepare their best jerk chicken dish along with their choice of accompanying starch of either yams or potatoes.

The judges of the competition were chefs Ainsley Lambie and Kavene Williams of the Coyaba Beach Resort and Wallton Austin of the Culinary Federation of Jamaica.
