Tamarind Continental Cuisine: Fusion of Culture and Palates
Upon entry, you are greeted by a black and white animated portrait of Audrey Hepburn, golden brick walls and cosy seating that beckons for you to relax before your tongue is taken on an exquisite journey through Europe with a touch of India. This is what awaits you at Tamarind Continental Cuisine.
Owned by Vivek Chatani and his wife Puja, it is a twist from their previously owned restaurants - Saffron at Marketplace and Tamarind Indian Cuisine which is just a few steps away from this new eatery in the Orchid Village Plaza on Barbican Road.
With a cafe feel, the decor is the handy work of interior decorator Michelle Subarang. She made sure the decor - New York inspired brick layouts, window blinds from India and wallpaper from Italy, was a fusion just like the menu.
Why Continental Cuisine?
Chatani believed that this was the next viable cuisine to take on. The new location was initially just supposed to facilitate the overflow from Tamarind Indian Cuisine, but after a while he wanted to give his customers more options.
He believed that the Jamaican palate has become more exploratory when it comes to food, so why not satisfy all their delectable desires?
Chatani acknowledges that people have become a bit more health conscious, so he wanted to offer individuals with a healthy option. Continental cuisine facilitates this, opening up the menu to soups and salads as well as grilled foods that would be healthy yet tasty.
Some of the offering on the menu include their feta and apple salad which includes organic mixed green, sliced green apples, topped with feta cheese and tossed walnuts drizzled with their apple vinaigrette dressing. In the soup category, one of the favourites is the mushroom cappuccino served with garlic bread. This unexpected combination is flavourful and smooth.
Though the restaurant has only been opened since February 24th, patrons already have some favourites. The most popular so far is the butter chicken pizza with a mild Indian curry sauce - a fusion that is a perfect blend for any and everyone.
The dishes on the menu are taken from all corners of Europe which took Chatani about a year and a half to thoroughly research. Being a foodie it was no problem for him to try the different foods to see which would be best to get entangled in Indian spices.
However, if you are the mood for straight Indian cuisine, you can still order your favourite dishes from Tamarind Indian Cuisine as their menu will also be available at this new location.
