Jamaica Food and Drink Company is on a mission to position Kingston Jamaica as a gastronomy destination, by giving a platform to the amazing food and drink purveyors we have on the island, with timely themes that represent our culture. On Friday, March 31, Jamaica Food and Drink Kitchen (JFDK) hosted Catch and Cork, a seafood and wine-pairing menu that was in keeping with no meat for the Lenten season.

“As it is the Lenten season, we saw an opportunity to give seafood and wine lovers an avenue to explore their palates with creative wine-paired menus and desserts,” said JFDK Brand Manager Yohann Reynolds.

The event, which partnered with VISA, Rainforest, and wine purveyors such as Select Brands, Chas E. Ramson, and BetCo, gave patrons their fill of seafood dishes which included fresh sushi, lobster pasta, pan-seared Vietnamese salmon with ginger miso sauce, spicy grilled prawns, conch and sweet corn fritters, and so much more, paired with a wide selection of wines. Our fave wine newbie on the block? The 19 Crimes Snoop Dogg Cali Gold. Yes, the Long Beach rapper is serving up a solid offering of wines, including the Cali Red and Cali Rose through 19 Crimes, which are locally being distributed by BetCo. And lifestyle doyenne and Snoop’s pal Martha Stewart also has a 19 Crimes wine dubbed Martha’s Chard (Chardonnay) that paired ever so perfectly with the occasion’s creamy seafood chowder.

“We try to give our patrons everything they desire,” said Reynolds, “as well as our food and wine suppliers, and we knew we could showcase the diversity of our offerings and are well capable of staging both private events and larger festivals.”

With Lent coming to a close, we questioned what was next on the JFDK agenda, and while Reynolds would not give us the whole enchilada (wink, wink), Cinco de Mayo is around the corner.
