'Can't give hungry man the food fi carry'

Fifty-one-year-old Jermaine Murdock of Cheswick in Eastern St Thomas told The Gleaner he was once an avid supporter of the People's National Party (PNP) in both the local and general elections until, he said, he saw the light.

Murdock boldly revealed that his ballot belongs to the sitting councillor for the Dalvey division, Michael McLeod of the Jamaica Labour Party.

"The man has been working. Him defend everything weh we need. Him defend the schools here, the road, and him build a supermarket and employ a lot of people. We can say him do things," he said as he defended his choice.

No confidence in Bailey

And though Murdock himself made a switch in allegiance, he says he could never vote for Jairzenho Bailey, a former JLP candidate who once contested Dr Fenton Ferguson for the position of member of parliament for Eastern St Thomas.

Bailey yesterday failed in his bid to become councillor for Dalvey on a PNP ticket. He tallied 1,304 votes to McLeod's 1,710.

The Cheswick resident said he has no confidence in Bailey.

"Bailey was a Labourite, but when him realise him can't win Dr [Ferguson], him switch to PNP. All him a look is power," Murdock said, adding that he cannot afford to do anything that will help Bailey achieve the power he is allegedly seeking.

According to him: "I can't give hungry man the food fi carry, or else him a guh eat it out."
