Two more St Thomas communities under quarantine

The Health Ministry has placed two more St Thomas communities under a two-week quarantine as part of an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

According to the ministry, since 5 o'clock this morning, the communities of Albion and Seaforth have been under quarantine, restricting movement in and out of the areas after 13 positive COVID cases were detected there in the past three weeks.

"Many of the cases are symptomatic, which is a cause for concern and suggests
that there may be ongoing transmission in the communities," said a ministry spokesperson in a release.

For the past two weeks, the St Thomas communities of Bamboo River, Church Corner and Lower Summit have been under a quarantine, set to be lifted on September 2.

The health ministry said over the next two weeks, community surveillance will be carried out to detect any new cases and to implement appropriate measures to contain the spread of COVID within the parish.

The Ministry said based on test results received, some 107 persons have been identified as being COVID positive in St Thomas.

Forty-five are within the quarantine areas.
