Woman sergeant dies in Mandela Highway traffic crash
A woman police sergeant has died following a traffic crash along the Mandela Highway in St Catherine.
She sergeant identified as was assigned to the St Catherine South Police Division.
The police Corporate Communication Unit confirmed the incident but did not offer details.
"She sustained injuries in a motor vehicle crash and was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead," a spokeswoman said.
The incident happened some time around 4 o'clock and involved a police service vehicle.
The sergeant is the third member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to die tragically in recent weeks.
Last month, Constable Kamal Foster was killed when the motorcycle he was driving crashed along the Rock Hall main road in St Andrew.
Days later, Constable Kemar Francis was shot and killed by gunmen along Pretoria Road in St Andrew South, as he and a colleague responded to reports of gunfire in the area.
