WESTERN BUREAU:

When Prime Minister Andrew Holness officially opened Montego Bay’s newest attraction, the $1.3-billion Harmony Beach Park in the tourism capital last Friday, he dubbed it “the people’s park”.

When the facility opened its doors to the public for the first time on Tuesday, leisure lovers streamed into the beautifully laid out park, which is in the final stages of completion.

Popular Montego Bay social-media personality Tanesha Thelwell, more popularly known as Rose, was one of the persons who got a close-up of the park and was clearly impressed.

“It good …. Mi like it,” said Rose, who is looking forward to having a swim at the beach which borders the park. “It looks nice to me … very nice.”

Some of the persons who ventured into the park on Tuesday described it as an ideal lunching spot, especially because many restaurants are not allowing dining because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“I have been looking forward to it seeing that, since corona, the park up there (Walter Fletcher Beach Park) has been closed, and most restaurants and food places you can’t dine there, so sometimes you want to find a place where you can chill out and have a quick lunch or just to get away from home,” said Britany, who decided to have lunch in the park with a friend.

One woman who identified herself as Marcia said she found the general scenery to be eye-catching and is recommending it as a place for family, fun, and frolic.

“To be honest, I really think it is a great opportunity for Montegonians to have somewhere they can move and relax and just enjoy good times with family and friends … ,” said Marcia.

In March, Donnel Barnett, the project manager for M&M Jamaica Construction Company, said the project was only 80 per cent ready and intimated that work would continue after the official opening.
