Suspected cop killer slain

A man suspected of being involved in the killing of a police sergeant last week was slain during an early-morning police operation in Payne Land, St Andrew, on Tuesday, the police have reported.

The slain man is suspected to be Javani Rodney, also called 'Pim Pim', said Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, head of the St Andrew South Police Division.

“There was a confrontation and he was killed,” said Ricketts.

Rodney is believed to be one of six men who opened fire on Sergeant Averel McCollin and five civilians as they played dominoes along Cottage Drive in Gregory Park in Portmore, St Catherine, on September 19, police investigators have charged.

Clansman trial resumes today

The Clansman-One Don Gang trial was adjourned Tuesday morning because of the unavailability of the prosecution's star witness.

When the trial was called up in the Home Circuit Court, Chief Justice Bryan Sykes said that the witness was not ready and ordered the court to break for 30 minutes.

However, he returned almost an hour and a half later and adjourned proceedings after it emerged that the issue with the witness would not be resolved in time.

The trial is expected to resume on Wednesday.

Reputed One Don Gang leader Andre Bryan and 32 other alleged cronies are being tried on an indictment with 25 counts under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organizations) Act and the Firearms Act, to which they have pleaded not guilty.

Bail extended for Patrick Roberts

People’s National Party Councillor Patrick Roberts, who is facing fraud charges, is scheduled to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on December 6.

The popular producer, businessman, and local government representative for the Molynes Gardens division had his bail extended on Tuesday when he reappeared in court on charges of forgery, uttering forged documents, and conspiracy to defraud.

His co-accused, Ramone Edwards, a 28-year-old labourer, also had his bail extended. Edwards is charged with conspiracy to defraud.

A new mention date was fixed after the court was informed that the case file is incomplete.

Allegations brought against the two are that the complainant's father's signature was forged on a will on April 19, 2019.

It is further alleged that the forgery was witnessed by the two accused.

Roberts is being represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie, QC, while Edwards is represented by Patrick Peterkin.
