An unidentified man was killed in Ensom City, Spanish Town, Monday night.

Residents said that explosions were heard around 7 o’clock and passers-by later stumbled upon the body and summoned the police.

The dead man, who had dreadlocks, was found nearby the community centre.

His hands were reportedly bound.

Residents of the St Catherine community have lamented that criminals were using the cover of dark to launch attacks.

“The place is very dark, as there are no lights here,” a resident, who requested anonymity because of security concerns, said of the area where the body was found.

“Not even ghost want to walk here at nights.”

The deceased is believed to be from Old Harbour in the parish.

Further west in St Catherine, three men were arrested in relation to illegal possession of firearm and ammunition following an operation in Windsor Heights on Monday.

A police party accosted the trio, whose actions drew suspicion.

During a search of a bag in their possession, a Glock pistol, along with two magazines loaded with 30 rounds of 9mm cartridges, was allegedly seized.

“We will continue to get the guns wherever they are,” Superintendent of Police Hopeton Nicholson told The Gleaner.

That seizure was the second in six days, as the police seized a rifle in Windsor Heights on February 22.

Nicholson, who heads the operation portfolio in the St Catherine South Police Division, said that law enforcers have intensified crime-fighting operations in the greater Central Village area.
