Cop dies in crash in St Catherine

A policeman who reportedly left home to seek medical treatment died in a car crash in Bog Walk, St Catherine on Friday night.

He has been identified as 31-year-old Constable Ricardo Williams, who was attached to the Tivoli Gardens police post in Kingston Western.

Reports are that about 11:45 p.m., Williams was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car along Church Road when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle in the vicinity of the old Nestle factory.

The car crashed into a utility pole.

He was rushed to the Linstead Hospital in the parish where he was pronounced dead.

According to head of the Kingston Western police, Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, Williams was home when a medical issue developed and he left alone to reach the hospital or a doctor.

"The next thing they (relatives) know is that there was an accident reported to them," the senior cop said.

Westmoreland guest house operator shot dead at home

A guest house operator was shot dead at his home in Water Works in Westmoreland yesterday morning.

The businessman has been identified as Fitzroy James, otherwise called ‘Sugar' or 'Sugar Rock'.

He owned the Sugar Rock Lagoon in Cave district, and the Star Castle Guest House in Whitehouse, both in Westmoreland.

Reports are that about 11 a.m., James was at his residence when he was ambushed and shot multiple times by unknown assailants.

The police were summoned and upon their arrival, James was found in a pool of blood.

He was transported to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Whithorn police are investigating.

One killed, four injured in shooting at Westmoreland shop

A man was shot dead and four others injured in a gun attack on patrons at a shop in Georges Plain, Westmoreland, on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Rojay Mowatt, otherwise called 'Boy Boy' and 'Blacks', from Burnt Savannah district in the parish.

Reports are that about 7:50 p.m., Mowatt and the other victims were among patrons at the shop in Water Lane, Georges Plain, when a blue Toyota Axio motor car drove up.

Two men allegedly alighted with handguns and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Mowatt was pronounced dead at hospital.

The other four were admitted in critical condition.
