Marks, Seiveright get ministerial positions
Two days after being appointed to the Senate, Audrey Marks, the former Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, was elevated to Cabinet minister in the Andrew Holness-led government.
At the same time, Delano Seiveright, a former senior adviser and strategist in the tourism ministry, who was also appointed to the Senate recently, has been promoted to the executive as state minister for tourism.
A statement from Jamaica House yesterday evening said the appointments have been made to pivotal roles within the Government.
According to the statement, the appointments reinforce the administration’s commitment to innovation, efficiency within the public service, and tourism development.
Marks has been appointed as minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for efficiency, innovation, and digital transformation.
A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE
“Senator Marks brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously served as Jamaica’s ambassador to the United States, where she played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations,” the Office of the Prime Minister said.
Senator Marks also had an illustrious career in the private sector.
In announcing Seiveright’s appointment as state minister, OPM said the former strategist has been an active participant in Jamaica’s tourism sector and has contributed to many initiatives that enhanced the nation’s tourism product.
In his new role, Seiveright will focus on increasing the linkages between the tourism sector and the wider economy, ensuring that more Jamaicans benefit directly from the industry’s growth.
Marks and Seiveright are expected to be sworn in at King’s House today.
Prime Minister Holness said he was confident in the capabilities of Marks and Seiveright, noting that their appointments are strategic steps towards achieving the administration’s goals of modernising government operations and further strengthening the tourism industry under the ASPIRE growth strategy introduced by him in November 2024.
