WESTERN BUREAU:

Adam Stewart has appointed hospitality executives Wayne Cummings and Omar Robinson to the board of AC Hotel Jamaica, marking his first major move since acquiring majority control of the hotel.

Stewart now holds 52 per cent of the controlling shares in the AC Hotel Kingston, in line with the provisions of his late father Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart’s will. Attempts to reach Stewart for comment were unsuccessful, but Cummings confirmed his appointment.

“I have the greatest respect for the work and dynamism of the Stewart family’s investments in Caribbean tourism and other industries. Therefore, it is an honour to serve on and add my expertise to this board. I look forward to what I know will be a commitment by the company to be unrelenting in further raising the bar in hospitality and tourism in Jamaica,” he told The Gleaner.

Cummings is the CEO of Arya Group and operator of BirdShack Fried Chicken Jamaica. He previously held senior roles at Sandals Resorts and currently chairs the board of Sandals Corporate University.

Robinson, the general manager of Sandals Royal Plantation, joins the board with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. He previously served as general manager at Round Hill Hotel and Villas for 13 years.

The appointments come as Stewart moves to strengthen governance at the hotel, located in New Kingston. The AC Hotel, developed under the stewardship of both Adam and Gordon Stewart, is positioned as a business-focused property in Jamaica’s capital.

The hotel is adjacent to luxury automotive dealerships and incorporates modern design elements aimed at appealing to urban and business travellers. The development was part of a broader vision led by Adam Stewart, with strategic input from his father during the planning and construction phases.

The current board changes are part of ongoing efforts to position the hotel for future growth and operational improvements in the local hospitality sector.
