Central High tragedy might push back school’s end-of-year exams
Central High School in Clarendon was yesterday considering the postponement of its end-of-year exams following the sudden death of grade-nine student Daylan Findlay, who reportedly collapsed on the school compound last Friday.
“We are at the stage now where end-of-term exams should be administered. I spoke with the leadership there, who advised me that they are thinking about pushing back, by a couple days, the end-of-year/end-of-term exams,” the school’s chairman, George Clue, told The Gleaner. “The school is in mourning, everybody is shocked. A teacher died recently and the teacher’s death is being considered as a sudden death, too.”
He said Findlay fainted during lunchtime and was carried to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“What I was told by the leadership is that he is a part of the dance club at school, and he may have been having lunch hour activity at the time. And the activity may have concluded, and he fainted and was carried away for medical attention and was pronounced dead,” Clue said.
The chairman said inquiries so far have revealed that the student had no known illnesses. He said the school is awaiting an autopsy report to determine the cause of death.
